PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
